Kamer van de elementen
In de renaissance kijkt men naar de oudheid.
Pakt uit de klassieke verhalen juist die verhalen die symbool
kunnen staan voor de machthebber of het programma van de
machthebber kan ondersteunen.
De vetaling hoef je niet direct mooi te vinden maar ze vormen
wel een belangrijke schakel in de kunstgeschiedenis.
De schilderingen zijn in deze kamer gemaakt door Giorgio Vasari, Cristofan Gherardi en Marco Marchetti da Faenza. 1555 – 1557. Een van de lessen die ik van het bezoek heb bijgehouden is de enorm brede rol van Giorgio Vasari. Die gaat veel verder dan schrijver van de ‘Levens’ (Le vite).
Palazzo Vecchio, Room of the elements, Earth offering the first fruits of the earth to Saturn, God of seed sowing.
Fire. Vulcan, God ot fire forges arrows for cupid.
Water. The Gods of water pay tribute to Venus, born of Saturn’s seed spilled in the sea.
Centraal in de ‘Room of elements’ is deze schildering te zien aan het plafond: Air. Cronis, God of time surrounded by allegories of the creators prerogatives, mutilates Uranus, God of the sky whose seed spawns the four elements.
Kamer van Hercules
Palazzo Vecchio, Room of Hercules.
Hercules slays the Lernaean Hydra.
The baby Hercules strangles the snake, Juno had placed in his cradle.
Hercules steals the golde apples from the garden of the Hesperides.
Uffizi
Dat is wat je een opbouw naar een hoogtepunt noemt:
Laat ik beginnen met vragen of ik al gezegd had dat het er druk was?
Of dat het regende?
Het zou snel droog worden.
Terug naar het serieuzere werk. Binnenkort mag je een werk als dit niet meer laten zien….

Armida is a beautiful oriental sorceress who is madly in love with the crusader Rinaldo, whose stories are told by Torquato Tasso in Gerusalemme Liberata, one of the most beloved poems in Florence in the seventeenth century.
Left by her lover, Armida unleashes monstrous demons to carry out her revenge.
Cecco Bravo was an exceptional and bizarre artist, one of the most exciting and original of his age in Florence.
He enchants us with an atmospheric painting which is the result of his knowledge of Venetian art.
The painting was donated by the Friends of the Uffizi Galleries in 2011 (? date almost unreadible).

Het verbindend element bij al de afbeeldingen van dit bericht
is het feit dat het om portretten gaat.
En wat voor!
