Gisteren was ik in het Museum Valkhof in Nijmegen.
Daar trof ik onderstaand kunstwerk aan van de pop-art kunstenaar
Woody van Amen.
Het werk geeft een heel andere invulling aan mijn weblog onlangs
over het Double Happiness symbool.

Langdurige bruikleen van de kunstenaar

Een historische ontmoeting tussen oost en west in de personen van de xe2x80x98grote roergangerxe2x80x99 Mao Tse Toeng en xe2x80x98Tricky Dickxe2x80x99 Richard Nixon.
Deze voorzichtige toenadering tussen China en de Verenigde Staten begin jaren zeventig werd destijds xe2x80x98pingpong-diplomaciexe2x80x99 genoemd.

De achtergrond van het tafereel wordt gevormd door een zich alzijdig uitbreidend swastika patroon. In het oosten is de swastika een universeel versieringsmotief dat geluk symboliseert.
Tussen de twee machthebbers staat het markante silhouet van de berg de Matterhorn, als een ongenaakbare natuurscheiding tussen beide culturen.

Yesterday I was in Museum Valkhof in Nijmegen.
There I found a work of art from the Dutch pop-art artist
Woody van Amen.
This object gives a completly different meaning
to the Double Happiness symbol I presented on my web log earlier.

On long lasting loan by the artist.

A historical meeting between East and West in the persons of xe2x80x98Chairmanxe2x80x99 Mao Tse Toeng and xe2x80x98Tricky Dickxe2x80x99 Richard Nixon.
The careful alignment between China and the United States in the early seventies was back then called xe2x80x98ping pong diplomacyxe2x80x99.

On the background you see a patron of swastikaxe2x80x99s, Constantly expanding.
In the East the symbol of the swastika is considered a universal symbol for decoration and it stands for happiness.
Between the two man in power is the remarkable feature of the Matterhorn. The Swiss mountain forms a natural divide between the two cultures.
